SURECARE ENABLING RECEIVES AN EXCELLENT CQC RANDOM INSPECTION REPORT JUNE 17, 2010
CQC carried out a Random Inspection of SureCare Enabling on June 17, 2010. They concluded:
"It was evident there was a commitment to provide care tailored to the individual enabling them to continue to live as part of the community with emphasis on promoting independence and involvement in their day to day lives.
Individuals receiving a service were being supported by enablers that were competent and well trained. There were good support mechanisms in place for staff.
There were no requirements or recommendations for improvement."
Recent testimony from a service user has said enabling support has given her "a sense of relief every time small tasks are completed. I feel able to express my opinions. I decide the whens, wheres and hows - the enablers respect my views and wishes and enable me to reach my goals.....I feel clearer about my future than I did before, I know I want to stay around for it now."

"Life After......" FREE Event held on April 21, 2010
Listen to an interview with Shelley Saxon on BBC Radio Bristol and watch our presentation on our Youtube channel
SureCare Enabling organised a free event for anyone affected by vision or hearing loss, stroke, brain injury or any other neurological conditions.
Throughout the day there were taster sessions of lip reading and sign language by the DeafPLUS and VisionPLUS organisation and a presentation by SureCare Enabling on how to cope with disruptive events.
Speaking recently to BBC Radio Bristol, Shelley said: “It’s really important that when people have experienced a stroke, sensory loss or other difficulty that they are able to engage as much as possible in the things they used to do, as that gives them a sense of personal identity. It’s not just about coping, it’s about getting as much enjoyment as you can from your life.
The effects of these things can be very sudden on someone’s life and that can make if difficult for them to cope and move forward with their life. The first thing they’re confronted with is the changes that are occurring and so it can become difficult for people to look forward and focus on their abilities.
So what we’ve done is pull together a group of key organisations, , who with representation from the Sensory Team, the Community Stroke Team and Neuro-rehab Team will be on hand, including us, to provide people with advice and allow them to try assistive aids. And there’s going to be a wonderful performance by Open Story Tellers, which works on communication skills and the ability for people to tell their story."

'WHAT IS ENABLING?' - TRAINING PEOPLE IN HEREFORD

Shelley Saxon was delighted to be invited by Angela Gilchrist of SureCare Services Hereford to train all of their staff in the principles and practical application of enabling, 'What is Enabling?'.
'What is Enabling?' is an innovative training programme designed by Shelley Saxon to give participants the knowledge and skills to enable people to realise goals and cope with disruptive events. The programme combines a presentation, case study, group and role-play exercises and sighted guide training. Through the training participants gain a deeper, personally relevant understanding of what people experience if they live with impairments, and how it affects their lives.
Here are some comments from participants:
"Good hands on experience."
"Role play was excellent."
"Being put in perspective of a service user at the receiving end of support had the most impact on me."
SureCare Services Hereford specialise in providing excellent 3* rated home-based support to people living in and around Hereford. Angela and her team have also been working very closely with the Mental Health Department of their local Social Services to provide an innovative service to enable people with dementia to remain in their own homes.
SureCare Service Hereford is totally committed to maintaining and developing their 3* rated services, and Angela is justifiably proud of her team's acheivements.
